Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel

We liked everything about this hotel, the new furnishing, cleanliness,attention and everyday support of the staff . They have a good English speaking staff which is rare in China. Breakfast was really good, almost the same every day, but tasty and a lot of choices. The breakfast restaurant meets 5 star hotel standards. The location was great , 2 steps away from metro line 7. Whenever I asked the stuff about the directions I got help and detailed information which was really amazing. It’s 6 km away from downtown but taxi is affordable and you can reach the turist destinations by metro. We stayed from December 27 to January 5 ,2026 and enjoyed every day in this hotel. I surely recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay in Shanghai.

The hotel was beautiful, also located in a beautiful area, the staff was so accommodative of us irrespective of the language barrier.

We struggled with some food that was available in the buffet. It was mostly Chinese food that was served, other choices for internationals were limited. We struggled with eating the food so we only had breakfast once in at the hotel the subsequent days we went to go eat elsewhere with my son.

Location and breakfast are one of the best compared to other top scale hotels in Shanghai

One of the safety guard in the pool was not trained very well and talked to us very rude. I submitted a complaint to the management, which took it seriously. Overall, still good experience

Doesn’t feel like a 5 star hotel. Room amenities are lacking.

Our stay was comfortable and the staff was really friendly and spoke good English. For one night, the wifi was down and we told them. Next day, they offered us free breakfast to apologize for the inconvenience, which was a thoughtful gesture.

The pillows were a little hard for our liking. We also stayed for 9 nights and the cleaner sometimes don’t dust off properly the room so we had to notify the reception

Location is very good - metro is very close. The staff is very nice and helpful

When you pay for 3 adults - you should get 3 equal beds included in price.

Staff advised our taxi driver to the wrong terminal causing some stress so please check and check what is communicated if you don't speak Mandarin. Otherwise, pleasant stay at the hotel.

Breakfast was good, room was decent size and location was convenient.

The towels were old, the first room had a very strong cigarette + mold smell - given that the fine for smoking in room was only a couple hundred RMB, it won’t surprise me if the guests smoke either way. We complained a couple of hours later since we left the hotel right after getting the keys and the staff told us to complain earlier which was awkward since they didn’t even apologize or offer us any compensation for the inconvenience.The shower of the second room was leaking. We asked them to repair it but they didn’t or it didn’t work. We ended up staying with the wet bathroom floor since we stayed only for 2 nights. The guests from the room besides us arrive at the second night and we could hear he/she snoring the whole night, it sounded like we were sleeping in the same room.. I am a light sleeper so that affected my sleep so much…I’m not gonna lie but we got very disappointed considering that it was a Renaissance Hotel…. No sorry and no regrets from the staff overall, maybe they got used to those situations.

The room is very clean and tidy. The air conditioner works well--extremely important in the hot, humid weather in Shanghai!The breakfast is also good enough.

Our room had a very unpleasant smell, we complained and their answered in the most professional way, changing the room and explaining it comes from the old ventilation system.
